Catlins accommodation at Kaka Point - Breadalbane.

About Kaka Point & The Catlins

Kaka Point is located at the northern end of the Catlins region in the south-east part of the South Island of New Zealand. It is a small holiday resort town, ideal for families and a great place to stay if you wish to explore the diverse attractions of "The Catlins"

The historic Nugget Point Lighthouse is just 10km from Kaka Point and accessible with a short walk along a track which gives spectacular views of the coastline and cliffs. In the early morning and in the evenings, yellow eyed penguins can be seen entering and leaving at nearby Roaring Bay. Along the way you can enjoy the coastal scenery and watch the seal colonies, all for free!

As you travel further south on the Southern Scenic Route you will find many walks through the native forests, waterfalls and other scenic attractions in this historic region of New Zealand. Owaka, a small town 15 minutes from Kaka Point is in the heart of the Catlins and has a newly completed Museum and Information Centre which recreates the pioneering history of this once totally forest covered region.
